The Mercer are delighted to invite the friends to a day of free, special events at the Mercer Gallery on Saturday 15th February 2025 to celebrate their two stunning new exhibitions, curated in partnership with Goldmark Gallery, one of the U.K.’s leading commercial galleries.
Look, Look Again! showcases the Mercer’s outstanding collection of pre and post war British art, augmented by Goldmark Gallery’s superb collection of works from that era. See twenty-five mid-Century works recently donated to the Mercer by the late Yorkshire based writer, artist and photographer David Morgan Rees, including original paintings and drawings by Prunella Clough, John Craxton, John Minton, John Piper, Leonard Rosoman, Graham Sutherland and Keith Vaughan. Art lovers, please note that works loaned by Goldmark are for sale from this exhibition.
Concurrently, we present a new collection of inventive paintings, collages and etchings by the widely acclaimed artist Christopher P Wood. inspired by the fascinating and often macabre fairy tales of the Brothers Grimm. “The Grimm’s fairy tales continue to inspire and renew themselves in the contemporary imagination, dealing, as they do, with those perennial and timeless matters of family, soul, justice, love, betrayal, redemption and the eternal conflicts of ethics and morality.” All works are available to buy and the accompanying catalogue contains an essay and poems by the award winning poet Ian Duhig,

13.30 – 14.30 Max Waterhouse hosts an ‘In Conversation’ event with Christopher Wood and Ian Duhig, delving into Chris’ fascination with the stories of the Brothers Grimm and including a reading of Ian’s poetry. The event is free but limited capacity, please RSVP here
