The Friends of the Mercer help the Gallery in many ways with their fundraising and one of the most important contributions they make is to help the Gallery find the money to buy major works of art for Harrogate. Because the Friends are able to donate towards the acquisition of works of art, the national funders such as the Art Fund and The ACE/V&A Purchase Grant Fund, may be encouraged to help.
