Royal Academician David Remfry MBE RA in conversation with artist and curator Courtney Spencer

We’re delighted to welcome acclaimed contemporary painter David Remfry RA MBE to the Mercer gallery. Join us to hear him reveal the inspirations behind We Think the World of You, his exhibition currently on display at the Mercer.

The seeds for We Think the World of You were sown in New York, when Remfry was resident at the iconic Hotel Chelsea’s studio.

Fascinated by the relationship between dogs and their owners, Remfry started work on a series of pencil and watercolour portraits, with actors such as Susan Sarandon, Ethan Hawke and Alan Cumming sitting for the artist.

Remfry grew up and studied art in Hull. Since his first solo show in London in 1973, he has had more than fifty international solo exhibitions. Now living and working in London, he has curated several exhibitions, including the Royal Academy’s Summer Exhibition 2023. He was recently a Professor of Drawing at the Royal Academy Schools.

Remfry will be speaking with Courtney Spencer, an Australian artist and curator based in Yorkshire since 2005. Founder of the Leeds Summer Group Show and Director of Left Bank Leeds for five years, Courtney launched The Art Court in 2022, currently working out of stunning new art space the First White Cloth Hall in Leeds.
